Alone

September 27, 2010 by Kathleen

Every time I sit at the computer, the barking begins.

The more I say “STOP-IT”,

the louder and more pronounced it becomes.

It was driving me crazy.

I even considered, since she is in her ‘season’,

it was hormones and need a doggie Xanax.

{Is there such a thing?}

But then I paused, to ask myself,

why is she barking at me?

It took a little figuring out;

 just needed intuitiveness and sensitivity.

She wasn’t hungry, thirsty, or needing to use outside facilities.

Daphney was trying to tell me she felt lonely and alone.

  IMG_0121

She simply wanted someone to love her.

After I got down on the floor,

looked her in the eyes,

held her close,

 and paid attention,

the barking stopped.

All I had to do was look past my knee jerk reaction of annoyance,

to understand loneliness does not discriminate.

This of course led to my big thought of the moment.

We humans {and beagles} are social creatures, each and everyone one of us.

We cannot make it on this little blue marble without

support, understanding and companionship from those around us.

Everyone just wants to be recognized

as valuable in some way, shape, or form.

Today I paused and made sure no one else in my life was barking.

Because

no one wants to be alone.

ALONE

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don’t believe I’m wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can’t use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They’ve got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I’ll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
‘Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Lastly, a note:
Dear Ms. Amy,
So sorry to hear the news about your Border Collie of 9 years.
Cancer is silent and steals our loved ones all to often.
I find some peace that your family member is chasing butterflies
in heaven with Darcey the Beagle.
I understand how sad you and your family must be.
My heart goes out to all of you.

We don’t have a dog, but my Sister-in-law has a Beagle, and we visit often. It’s nice to get there after she has been a “bad dog” all day, and when we get there she is all worn out, and lays next to me and sleeps. We are like the Grandparents of the dog. We don’t have to do the hard “dog raising” stuff, just enjoy the good times (letting her sleep next to me, and pet her). 🙂
