Because You Asked

September 18, 2012 by Kathleen

Tamarind-212My girl Lindsey tagged me for a blogging chain interview a while back. Answering Lindsey’s questions gave me room for pause. I needed to think about my responses. Precisely what should share – let it all hang out or keep it close to the vest? Needless to say this has been a work in progress. She tagged me a while ago. These inner dialogues take time people.

After careful deliberation with my inner self, I’ve decided to write this post as if the brilliant Lindsey, from The Modchik, was next to me in the kitchen. We are making her Tiramisu recipe, of course.

Before we begin, as instructed, I get to “pass the torch and tag some pretty cool bloggers” in return.

It’s the price of admission.

So for those of you who have been tagged here are your marching orders:

Take Note:

~ You must post the rules (hence, here they are!).
~ Answer 11 questions the tagger posted for you.
~ Create 11 questions to ask the people you tag.
~ Tag 11 people.
~ Let them know you’ve tagged them.

Lindsey asks:Sd - Jennas Wedding 110

1. Describe yourself in no less than 11 adjectives?

Do we have enough 10 Cane Rum for the recipe? Well, I guess I’ve been told I am:

All Heart, Warm, Spicy, Engaging, Fun Loving, Adept, Sensitive, Sassy, Affectionate, Cognizant, Agreeable

and lastly, probably the strongest – Perceptive.

2. When did you get your first camera and what was it. Bonus if you have photos?

EZPZ Lindsey, 1994. Hubbie bought me a Canon SLR. Told me to capture the world as I saw it. Below, it tickles me to think this was the VERY first photo {SOOC – Straight out of Camera} clicked in 1994, using a Canon SLR Rebel film camera. It was Christmas morning. Can we turn those bonus points into Kean Coffee currency? And please hand me those Forno Bonomi Savoiardi Ladyfingers, the coffee has cooled for the dipping.

3. What do you find is the biggest challenge to photograph and why?

Hmm, I’ll go with posing people.  I’d much rather capture candid’s – I’m good at that:

4. What story does your family always tell about you?

Can’t really answer that. Is it sad to say that I don’t have a single story to share? It makes me want to grab the phone to ask, but that would be artificial. Right? So maybe a better question would be, what do you hear them say when you think of them?

Brother – “How did you always mange to get out of mowing the lawn?”

Sister – “Hi Sharkie…”

Daddy – “Dance with me.”

Mom – “You missed a spot…”

Grammie – “You are my angel girl…”

5. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever what age would that be and why?

Good one Lindsey, I’ve thought of this often and can’t define it to any certain age.  Can I get away with simply giving you two?Holiday 1995

First 25. Newly married, vibing the strong professional life, loved by my family, and absolutely stupidly invincible.

reunion

Then 38. My baby making days are done. My parents and Gigi are healthy, and my knees still allow me to work out. Hard. All that baby weight gain had melted away. Which means, I could eat and drink whatever I pleased. What is not to love about that? I sound like Ina.

6. What do you miss most about being a kid? thrasher family 1973

Being in the moment. No past – No future – No worries. Where did we put that Mascarpone Cheese Linz?

7. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?

The Rose by Bette Midler: Should’ve been my wedding song. The lyrics make me cry, no matter what I am doing, always. Everything about that song is touching and beautiful.

Bohmiane Rhapsody by Queen or shall we say Freddie:  Kinda the worlds best song ever. Long live Freddie.

Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes:

Action speaks louder than words
And I’m a man of great experience

a few more:

American Pie by Don McLean – the rhythm and sing song sound is calgon take me away soothing.

Dixie Chicks performing Landslide by Fleetwood Mac  – Makes me stop and pause each time I hear it.

I Would Die for You by Prince  – I have a thing for Prince

What Comes Around Goes Around by Justin Timberlake – Head to head against Sexy Back

Stronger by Kanye West – all the challenges in your present life help you in the future

Fix you by Coldplay – helping someone in your time of need, and learning from your mistakes – long sigh.

I’ll stop now…. but I could totally go on and on.

8. What would you name the autobiography of your life?

That would have to go along with an Occam’s Razor Theory: Taking the Simplest Explanation

9. Where is the farthest place you have traveled?

Haiti. No – not a big political/crusade deal. That’s not me.

It was a pleasure cruise during my college years on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. They owned beach front property in Haiti. Mom and Dad paid for it under the auspices of, let’s keep the tribe together thing.

Today, the universe whispers France – Rome – Italy. Consistently. I think Gigi is involved. Her most loved cities were France and Rome.

10. Where is your happy place? Connecting with people.

11. Name 3 of your favorite photographers (well-known or not).

11-08-05 Blogher-099

Penny De Los Santos: Penny is an award-winning photographer and a senior contributing photographer at Saveur Magazine. Based in New York City she specializes in food and travel photography. Still begging her to mentor me.

White on Rice-034

Toad Porter and Diane Chu (White on Rice): They are professional food & lifestyle photographers and freelance journalists. They always make me cry in their studio.

Last but not least, you, The Modchik. What can I say. I just love you and your artistic eye. You are a true inspiration and muse. Love you always Lindsey – no matter what.

Tirimisu now goes happily into the fridge.

Tape recorder off…..
