Old Vine Cafe in Costa Mesa

Old Vine-018The Old Vine Cafe in Costa Mesa, California just turned 5 years old. Way to go… Idaho!

Have you been there friends?

It’s a personal favorite here in the OC. Brunch with  girlfriends and date night dinners have been memorable and down right tasty dining experiences.

So let me tell you about it. Breakfast is served from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. My go-to are the biscuits smothered in pancetta gravy, served with potatoes and a dill pickle. (It’s a craving I get from my southern roots.) No resy’s are taken during the breakfast hour, so get there early. It’s a small venue and people do line up. Here are a few Mother’s Day Brunch pic’s.

Unique sweet, savory, and comfort options await you on the breakfast menu.

Hello Biscuits and Gravy…. I love you.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. You can choose from a three-course set lunch or à la carte. Try the Panini, with mixed greens or homemade potato chips.

Now for dinner, that’s a whole different story. Old Vine Cafe offers 8 different four-course tasting menus: Seasonal, Original, Vegetarian, Vegan, Italian, Comfort, Premium and Epicurean. Each course is paired with wine and are priced from $65 to $80. My favorite is the Original.

Behold:

First Course

Sautéed Sea Scallop on a nest of Crispy Fried Yucca finished with Tarragon Chardonnay Sauce.

Paired with a 2010 Domaine de Bernier Chardonnay, France

Second Course

Handmade Fettuccini Pomodoro garnished with Aged Pecorino Romano Cheese.

Paired with a 2009 Castelvero Barbera, Piedmonte Italy

Third Course

Four Ounces of All Natural Filet Mignon & Crispy Fried Onions with Bleu Des Basque Demi Cream Sauce.

Paired with a 2009 Zolo Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza Argentina

Fourth and Final Course

Grandma’s Cheesecake, Wild Berry Puree

Paired with a NV Ferreira Ruby Port

$70 – amen.

Mario Miranda, the sommelier, took care of us last night and we all felt spoiled by his service and knowledge of the food and wine pairing. Thank you Mario!

Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays there are two seating’s. One at 5:30 p.m. while the other is at 8:30 p.m. Reservations are key on those two nights. We enjoy the second seating at 8:30pm. It allows us linger over a slow dinner, enjoy all the wine, close the place down, then stumble out to take a taxi home.

Try it the Old Vine Cafe in Costa Mesa, I think you’ll love the place.
