Restaurant Find – Pizzeria Ortica

After posting about Peter Pan at the Orange County Performing Art Center this past week, illness I had a number of emails. The answer is yes, site with or without little ones you will love it, medicine go buy your tickets!

As you may know our family believes in and supports the Arts. We are season ticket holders for the Broadway Series this year and I cannot tell you how excited I become when the calendar says “OCPAC night”.  So to let you in on a little tip, this is how our night goes down before each show.

Pizzeria Ortica Style.

On performance nights I always call ahead to make reservations at Pizzeria Ortica. It is a mere 100 yards from the entrance to OCPAC. Who doesn’t love that? We arrive at 5:00pm, when it opens, to give plenty time for me and DH to indulge ourselves. But even if you have later reservations, the staff is always expedient when you tell your server you are on a “show time schedule”.

Here are my favorites from this fine establishment.

  • Eat/order anything with Burrata cheese in it’s description.
  • The house wine is splendid
  • Always check out the local farmers market specialty menu for the daily specials.

  burratta2

My absolute, hands down, favorite is the Burrata with Parma Ham appetizer. The main ingredient last winter was grilled pears, basil, aged balsamic, Parma Ham and {all hail} Burrata. Its Iphone capture is above. On other occasions the appetizer has featured grilled persimmons or fresh farm grown heirloom tomatoes. I giggle thinking about my sweet girlfriend who confessed she would eat their Burrata cheese by the bucket if Pizzeria Ortica sold it. I completely agree with her. It is that good.

chicken palliard

I usually order the pollo al mattone , chicken breast griddled under a brick. Outstanding.  Accompanied with these babies:

french fries

Patatine Montanare – French-friend Kennebec potatoes, sage with aged balsamic. WOW.

hanger steak

DH went with the special this time; steak and polenta. He loved it.

tirasimu

To end the night we had coffee over a Tiramisu before walking over to OCPAC  to enjoy our show.

Their prices are reasonable and the service is memorable.

We love that place- the spicy pepperoni pizza is very hot but delish!! It is great to just walk over from the resturant to the OCPAC.

Another fav is Pizzeria Monzza on Melrose- similar in presentation- a flavor experience- they import their water from NY to make perfect crust.
